Caplan's Stroke: A Clinical Approach, 4th Edition

Since nearly all workers in the stroke field know, or know of, Dr. Caplan, he can be forgiven for the somewhat immodest title of his book. But can one person alone write a comprehensive book on stroke in the 21st century? Osler's Principles and Practice of Medicine (New York, D. Appleton), published in 1892, with all its antiquated ideas (such as the role of overwork in the formation of aortic aneurysm), remained in print for decades.

A Clinical Guide to Epileptic Syndromes and their Treatment

A disorder which affects 4 percent of children and 1-2 percent of the general population, epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders. The original edition of C.P. Panayiotopoulos’ guide proved to be the only one of its kind, covering many important aspects of diagnosis and treatment. Due to the continued advances being made in the subject, a second edition is now due. The text includes detailed diagnostics, concise descriptions of syndromes, a wealth of practical tips, and is supported by useful tables to enable clear diagnoses.

Stroke: Practical Guide for Clinicians

This publication provides the reader with the most recent updated advanced knowledge on the practical clinical approach to stroke medicine. It covers essential and practical information on the pathophysiology and epidemiology of stroke, new diagnostic techniques which allow for better diagnosis and identification of various subtypes of stroke, and new therapeutic strategies for acute stroke and transient ischemic attack.

The Central Nervous System: Structure and Function

The Central Nervous System: Structure and Function, Fourth Edition continues the tradition of one of the most respected textbooks in clinical neuroscience by providing medical students the knowledge and understanding of neuroscience as a basis for clinical thinking. While remaining concise and easy to read, the text encourages reflection and critical thinking of established facts and scientific conjecture and will be of interest to medical, graduate, and undergraduate students alike.

Migraine (Neurological Disease and Therapy)

Supported by an extensive review of migraine pathogenesis and more than 200 case histories gleaned from the authors’ personal experiences, this guide proposes two radical new concepts: all primary headaches are fundamentally a form of migraine and everyone may experience some manifestation of the migraine process in their life. Offering an in-depth overview of the migraine mechanism, including discussions of the neurogenic, vascular, platelet, and serotonin related components of the process, this source supplies extensive illustrations of the neuroanatomical structures involved in migraine and the latest insights from functional neuroimaging using BOLD fMRI and PET.

Manual of Nerve Conduction Studies, 2nd Edition

This second edition continues to offer practitioners access to a huge database of normal values, developed using the most modern scientific protocols, for virtually any patient population! Normal ranges take into account age, sex, height, and body mass index for a wide range of demographic groups to provide a complete set of reliable values for everyday clinical practice. Many studies are updated. When possible, studies with normal values based on larger groups of subjects with varied demographics are included. Side-to-side and same-limb comparisons of different nerves are often included, with the acceptable differences listed in the “helpful hints” section of the appropriate chapters. Included for reference is a schematic of the brachial plexus inside the front cover, to be used as an aid in determining which nerves to study in complex cases.

Molecular Neurology

Why a book on molecular neurology? Molecular neuroscience is advancing at a spectacular rate. As it does so, it is revealing important clues to the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of neurological diseases, and to the therapeutic targets that they present. Medicines work by targeting molecules. The more specific the targeting, the more specific the actions, and the fewer the side effects. This book highlights, for graduate and MD-PhD students, research fellows and research-oriented clinical fellows, and researchers in the neurosciences and other biomedical sciences, the principles underlying molecular medicine as related to neurology. Written by internationally recognized experts, this well-illustrated and well-referenced book presents the most up-to-date principles and disease examples relevant to molecular neurology, and reviews the concepts, strategies, and latest progress in this field. This book will interest anyone studying the molecular basis of neurology, or developing new therapies in neurology.

Practical Neurology, 3rd edition

In the 10 years or so since the First Edition of this book was conceived and prepared, there have been extraordinary and exciting advances in neurological knowledge and a steady growth of subspecialties in neurology. Unfortunately, these strides have been received with some degree of complacency among busy practitioners due to their misapprehension of the nature and complexity of the neurological specialty. Thus, with joyful enthusiasm, we have completed this new edition of Practical Neurology according to the original plans of a single-volume, nonencyclopedic book that synthesizes current information and applies it to the diagnosis and management of the most commonly encountered disorders of the nervous system. Like previous editions, the Third Edition of Practical Neurology is a concise, pragmatic, and patient-centered resource advising clinicians (and apprentices in clinical neurology) who alternate between adult and pediatric clinical settings on how to decipher, deduce, and predict.

Neurology and Trauma Randolph W. Evans M.D.

Disorders due to trauma to the head, spine, and peripheral nerves are among the most common seen by neurologists and neurosurgeons. This 42 chapter book is the comprehensive, definitive work on the subject, offering coverage on a wide range of clinical issues. The second edition features completely new sections on sports and neurologic trauma and iatrogenic trauma to complement existing comprehensive sections on head trauma, spinal trauma, plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, post-traumatic pain syndromes, environmental trauma, and posttraumatic sequelae and medicolegal aspects. Twenty-two of the first edition's chapters have been revised and updated, eight with new coauthors, and 20 new chapters have been added.

Surgery for Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a very common problem that is increasingly being treated surgically. This book aims to evaluate carefully the possible surgical approaches to low back pain, with detailed appraisal of the factors leading to their success or failure. It begins by explaining the scientific basis for surgery and considering the different diagnostic techniques that may be employed, thereby elucidating the surgical rationale, indications, and contraindications. The value of conservative options is also assessed to help the reader weigh the need for surgery. The various surgical modalities, including the most recent, are then fully described and evaluated with the aid of numerous illustrations.

A Dictionary of Neurological Signs Second Edition

The Dictionary of Neurological Signs can be almost as well described in terms of what the book is not, along with details about what it is. The Dictionary is not a handbook for treatment of neuropathies. While many entries provide the latest treatment options, up-to-the-minute therapies are not discussed in bedside level detail.
