Practical Neurology, 3rd edition

In the 10 years or so since the First Edition of this book was conceived and prepared, there have been extraordinary and exciting advances in neurological knowledge and a steady growth of subspecialties in neurology. Unfortunately, these strides have been received with some degree of complacency among busy practitioners due to their misapprehension of the nature and complexity of the neurological specialty. Thus, with joyful enthusiasm, we have completed this new edition of Practical Neurology according to the original plans of a single-volume, nonencyclopedic book that synthesizes current information and applies it to the diagnosis and management of the most commonly encountered disorders of the nervous system. Like previous editions, the Third Edition of Practical Neurology is a concise, pragmatic, and patient-centered resource advising clinicians (and apprentices in clinical neurology) who alternate between adult and pediatric clinical settings on how to decipher, deduce, and predict.
The Third Edition is an entirely rewritten version of the original text, accomplished through the addition of new and experienced contributors, and the inclusion of many illustrative tables and images. We asked authors to limit the length of their respective chapters and we tried to avoid repetition by cross-referencing chapters. A major effort has also been made to avoid eponymous names and to limit references only to the recent and essential. Every effort has been made in the editing of this book for content and accuracy, but it is possible that errors have been overlooked.
